Layout Unit

Link to Layout Unit Projects

This unit will explore the concepts outlined in the Non-Designers Design Book that describe four basic properties that are essential for creating effective and attractive layouts: contrast, repetition, alignment and proximity. This unit could be an entire field of study. There are an unlimited number of ways we can apply layout skills. Unfortunately we have a large amount of material to cover in a limited amount of time.

These projects are a combination of reading assignments and design projects. This is a relatively small unit, inserted between the Design Book unit and the Graphic Design Basics unit. Only two of the five projects result in original art products.

The concepts covered in unit are far reaching and should be a consideration for every assignment in the Graphic Design Basic unit. The fundamentals of layout are as important in a business card as they are on a web site. Every assignment completed in the Graphic Design Basic unit will be evaluated in one way or another on these principles.
