Illustrator Unit

Link to Illustrator Unit Projects

Illustrator is a vector based drawing program that is, in my opinion, the most important program you will learn. The tools and concepts you will work with in Illustrator are fundamental to, not only, the Illustrator application but also InDesign, Photoshop and Dreamweaver. Many of the tools and commands work the same way across the entire Adobe Creative Suite.

Illustrator is the most diverse program Adobe offers and it’s files can be used in a multitude of finished products: T-shirt designs, sign layouts, illustrations for any type publication are just a few of it’s many commercial uses. There are many sites that show amazing Illustrator samples: one such site is Smashing Magazine.

This unit will be taught in class with Direct Instruction. It will last for one nine week term, three class periods per day. It will consist of lessons from text book and additional assignments meant to reinforce and instruct on various aspects of the Illustrator interface. It will conclude with students taking the exam for Adobe Certification.

At this point I am not sure how much time will be available for additional enrichment assignments. I believe that students will show greater progress with direct instruction and will allow us more time for additional practice than just working through the text book. I intend to use at least part of this time working on some of the Design Book assignments that need to be completed using Illustrator.
